The sense of smell is rooted in the earliest stages of evolution; historically smell has been used to attract mates, find food, and avoid predators. Since smell is processed in the same area of the brain thatprocesseses memories and emotions, different scents have the potential to trigger and change moods and emotions. When you smell something associated with a postive experience or relationship your sense of wellbeing may increase. Similarly smell can be therapeutically utilized to “lift” you out of a certain mood or pattern.
